(I) Introduction
The recyclable eco-friendly Rainwater Retention Unit developed by Shanghai LEDO is a facility designed to be used in combination with PP water storage modules to enhance the overall load-bearing capacity and stability of water storage tanks. The unit is easy to install, has high load-bearing capacity, does not foster mosquitoes, flies, or algae, and can be disassembled and relocated for reuse in other areas after application at temporary construction sites. It is suitable for rainwater collection and utilization in large residential complexes, industrial parks, squares, and factory areas.
The Rainwater Retention Unit is the ultimate ace in the evolution of PP modules for rainwater systems. This model addresses three key challenges faced by current PP module products: modules that are easy to transport have low lateral pressure resistance; modules with high lateral pressure resistance incur exceptionally high transportation costs; and simultaneously, their vertical load-bearing capacity is often limited. The Rainwater Retention Unit solves all these problems. It combines easy transportability with high load-bearing capacity, featuring a vertical load-bearing strength exceeding 700 kN/m² and lateral load-bearing strength exceeding 300 kN/m² in all four directions. Furthermore, this product can be buried at depths exceeding 7 meters, achieving perfect integration with our company’s pretreatment products.
This product features a unique design. Through different splicing methods and connection techniques, it can function as an inspection chamber, enabling seamless connection between units. This completely overcomes the historical market practice of using pipes for inspection chambers, reducing the risk of tank collapse due to uneven force distribution to zero.
Simultaneously, the bag-type floating filter media developed by our company, embedded within the nine-grid structure, enables direct online filtration. It can directly meet the water quality standards for green area irrigation, road flushing, and landscape water replenishment. It directly replaces the scenario requiring pressurized filtration via lift pumps, eliminating the need for electrical power for filtration. This allows for dynamic, zero-boundary flow between raw water and purified water without external power, genuinely integrating environmental protection into the rainwater filtration process.
This product series can directly form an integrated system combining water storage, inspection, filtration, and disinfection, making it one of the best products for implementing the green and eco-friendly concept within Sponge City initiatives.
(II) Rainwater Retention Unit Specifications
- Length: 800mm
- Width: 800mm
- Height: 500mm
- Void Ratio: 89%
- Water Storage Volume: 0.285 m³
- Vertical Compressive Strength: 700 kN/m²
- Lateral Compressive Strength: 300 kN/m²
- Module Material: Polypropylene (PP)
- Structure: Composed of main side panels and internal partition panels
- Product Model: LDX-PP-8
(III) Installation Method
- During loading for transport, the main side panels and internal partition panels of the Rainwater Retention Unit can be stacked separately in multiple layers. This compresses the loading volume, saving transportation costs for customers.
- During installation, connect the internal partition panels by aligning and snapping them together at the interlocking positions. Assemble the main side panels to form the surrounding enclosure. Combining the internal and external structures forms a single Rainwater Retention Unit. The installation method is simple, requires minimal skill from on-site personnel, and is easy to master. Construction is swift, significantly improving installation efficiency, reducing labor costs, and shortening the construction period.
(IV) Usage Precautions
- During installation of the heavy-duty integrated Rainwater Retention Unit, the surfaces with the 500mm height dimension must be positioned as the vertical load-bearing faces to ensure the side with maximum strength is utilized.
- Rainwater Retention Units can be installed under traffic areas such as driveways and parking lots, and at greater depths beneath such areas. Installation under trafficked road surfaces must be conducted following professional engineering design requirements.
- The compressive strength has been tested by authoritative certification bodies. Testing was conducted in a controlled environment with uniformly distributed soil under static load conditions, simulating the highest strength scenario.
- A safety factor should be applied within the range of the compressive strength test results. This accounts for potential variations in actual on-site conditions, recycled materials, and any other potential variable factors. The product is made from special materials, providing exceptional load-bearing capacity. The 89% void space allows for more efficient water storage.
Rainwater Retention Units can be used in standalone combinations, wrapped with impermeable membranes and geotextiles to accomplish water storage and drainage. They can also be combined with PP water storage modules of different load-bearing capacities to optimize costs.
