Floating Bed Filter

The Floating Bed Fully Automatic Filter is a new type of water filtration equipment independently developed by Shanghai LEDO Industrial Co., Ltd. It is a new-generation water treatment device created by LEDO’s R&D team after years of technological breakthroughs, integrating innovative design concepts and advanced technology.

(I) Equipment Overview

The Floating Bed Fully Automatic Filter is a new type of water filtration equipment independently developed by Shanghai LEDO Industrial Co., Ltd. It is a new-generation water treatment device created by LEDO’s R&D team after years of technological breakthroughs, integrating innovative design concepts and advanced technology. Designed based on the suspension characteristics of the filter media, it adopts a counter-current filtration and no-pressure co-current regeneration process. This addresses common issues in traditional filters, such as clogging, poor media regeneration, high self-consumption of water, and large wastewater discharge. Its filtration flow rate is 2-3 times higher than granular media filters (e.g., quartz sand, multi-media), while the equipment’s volume and weight are significantly reduced, making it an ideal replacement for granular media filters. It effectively avoids typical drawbacks associated with conventional sand filters, such as mud ball formation, incomplete backwashing, excessive cleaning water consumption, and frequent media replacement.

(II) Application Scope

  1. Raw Water Treatment: Filtration of river water, groundwater, and rainwater.
  2. Cooling Water Treatment: Side-stream filtration for recirculating cooling water.
  3. Process Water Treatment: Pretreatment for boiler feed water, etc.
  4. Recirculating Water Treatment: For swimming pools, recreational pools, and landscape water.
  5. Reclaimed Water & Wastewater Treatment: Water reuse, car wash water, and sewage discharge treatment.
  6. Aquaculture Water: For aquariums and industrial aquaculture water treatment.

(III) Product Features

  1. Incorporates patented technology from our company.
  2. High filtration flow rate of 40-60 m/h, with a volume nearly 1/3 smaller than conventional filters.
  3. Utilizes processed expandable polystyrene as floating filter media, offering a large specific surface area. It achieves self-adaptive filtration accuracy, reaching high precision levels, and can completely replace quartz sand, multi-media, or fiber ball filtration.
  4. Employs an air-water mixed backwash method, ensuring high media recovery rate. This is the most thorough and economical backwashing method.
  5. Backwashing does not rely on external pressure, consumes no energy, is easy to operate, and generates minimal wastewater discharge.
  6. Features a dedicated dirt collector and a dual-drain valve design to prevent media leakage.
  7. Low pressure loss, effective filtration and backwashing, capable of fully automatic unattended operation, with low operational and maintenance costs.

(V) Working Principle

The Floating Bed Filter is a new-generation water purification equipment developed by our company based on summarizing the advantages of previous filtration devices. It mainly consists of a tank, filter body, filter media, and a control system. The filter media is made of a special material with a specific gravity slightly less than water, forming a floating barrier layer. The lower part of the tank houses the inlet pipe, the upper part the outlet pipe, and the bottom the cleaning/drain pipe. At least one filter plate is fixed inside the tank between the inlet and outlet pipes. Suspended granular filter media is located below each filter plate. The cleaning pipe connects to the drain pipe, with the drain pipe outlet positioned at a level higher than the tank bottom. During the backwashing process, the system does not require external pressure, consumes no energy, is easy to operate, and has a low wastewater flow rate. The equipment can feature multiple filter plates, with suspended granular media below each plate. The media size increases from top to bottom, achieving graded, layer-by-layer filtration. Filtration accuracy can be adjusted by changing the media particle size, resulting in excellent filtration performance and low operating costs. Replacing traditional quartz sand media with loosely packed, multi-sized media with a specific gravity less than 1 enables self-adaptation of filtration accuracy to inlet pressure and flow rate. As inlet pressure increases, flow accelerates, compacting the filter bed and thereby improving filtration accuracy. The equipment uses a counter-current filtration process: water containing impurities first undergoes coarse filtration through the filter body, and then remaining impurities passing through are intercepted by the graded floating barrier layer, achieving high-precision filtration. The media regeneration process is a pressure-less, dilutive dissolution process. It essentially works by loosening the filter media to expand the space for trapped contaminants, allowing a large amount of fouling to dissolve out, stratify, and finally be discharged.
